Local services: ramping up capacity for ICT enabled reform

Socitm 2012 promises to be one of the best ICT events of its kind in the UK. Plenaries and round table discussions will focus on key areas of individual and organisational capability emanating from Socitm’s highly revered publications – Insight’s IT Trends 2012 report and Planting the Flag – a strategy for ICT-enabled local public services reform, which Socitm is developing on behalf of the Local CIO Council with the support of the Government CIO and Cabinet Office.

Socitm Scotland 2012

Date: 20 September 2012

Following on from the success of Socitm Scotland 2011, this year’s conference will be held again in Edinburgh at Our Dynamic Earth.

The big ideas have been mapped, and the combined recommendations of the Christie Commission and the McClelland Review, in 2011, suggest that the prospects for high quality, continually improving, efficient and responsive, citizen- focused services has never been better…

  • from smart homes to smart cards,
  • from pupils to patients – with ubiquitous access to information and services,
  • from citizens driving technology use to public agencies employing technology to
  • reduce duplication.

But, what are the practical steps needed to turn these big ideas into reality?

These steps form the focus of Socitm’s work with the LG ICT Strategy Board in Scotland. Commissioned by the Scottish Executive through the Improvement Service, and working with SOLACE and others, the Board is exploring the ICT ‘routemaps’ to address each of four themes:

  1. Digital public services
  2. Reduce costs
  3. Better public services enabled by ICT
  4. Capability and governance

At Socitm Scotland 2012, you will be engaged in the debate around each of these themes through a combination of Master Class and Main Plenary sessions. Master Classes will focus on digital public services, cost reduction and prevention not failure. Plenaries will cover technology futures, McClelland one year on, leadership and capability, and better public services enabled by ICT.

PSN Summit 2012

Date: 12 September 2012

Venue: QEII Conference Centre, London

The Public Services Network (PSN) will soon be a reality, but what will it mean for public bodies? Once an organisation has been certified as being PSN compliant what benefits can be expected? How will PSN facilitate easier shared service arrangements, flexible working, reduced office accommodation and greater efficiencies in costs of services? Should an organisation sign up to PSN and when can it expect to start saving money?

The PSN Summit – Driving Business Benefits will attract circa 300 senior figures from Central Government, Local Government, NHS, blue light services and the Third Sector to hear presentations from the Cabinet Office, the CIO Council, Government Procurement Service and industry experts from PSNGB and other private sector specialists.
